Current Chapter: 3

Current Weapons: Caim's Sword, Bonebreaker, Maiden's Kris

  • Ok the first thing that jumped out to me is the music. Now of course I've heard osts with some really unnerving or distrubing undertones, but to hear it the minute you begin playing the game is such a shock to the system. It's not just disturbing either, it's straight up the soundtrack to madness. It's really hard to explain, you kinda just have to hear it to believe it.

  • Oh my god the controls are not good. I'm not great with explaining gameplay, but to me the game does not feel comfortable to control. Attacks don't really feel like they hit, like there's not a lot of discernable weight between a strike and a miss. Also it's really easy to fuck up dash attacks. There's also not a lot of options for combat/chains, but that doesn't bother me as much. I think the best adjective would be stiff? It kinda feels like driving a car where the steering wheel is really hard to turn. Whatever that means in singular words.

  • Speaking of more gameplay, the aerial combat I do not care for at all. I know people say they like that more than ground combat moments, but I feel exactly the opposite. I find that I'm in even less control of the dragon. Although in fairness, I'm not very familiar with games where you gotta kill things in the air, especially 3D games.

  • The plot is so interestingly told. It really fits with the theme of the chaotic gameplay. You aren't really told what's going on, you're just thrown into a combat situation and you have to just start hacking and slashing people. Also the fact that there's a dying dragon conviently placed by your feet is also just kinda funny.

  • I really love this game's use of "show, not tell" in the story. Like how after you make the pact, the game hints that you sacrificed your voice by the soldiers asking you to respond to their requests and you don't. Or how you're drenched with blood as you hold Furiae as a sign that you're a homicidal maniac.

  • Speaking of the pact thing, I absolutely love how they made the thing Caim sacrifices is his voice. It automatically turns him into the "silent protagonist" trope so common in RPGs. It's such a nice touch.

  • Also speaking of the homicide thing, I find it hilarious that as you progress through the game, the narration will consistently remind you that Caim is a revengeful, bloodthirsty monster. The game does not want you to sympathize with his actions at all, even though you're the one controlling him. I wish more games did that honestly.

  • Just recruited Leonard as an ally. I'm fully aware of the... "stuff" regarding his character, and because I'm aware this game did get a x amount of censorship, I'm curious how it's handled.

  • Oh one other thing before I forget, I kinda like how the dragon acts as the voice of reason. Not only is she speaking for Caim (a more calmer side of him, if such a thing exists), but she's always calling him out for not only his horrendous actions, but the actions of everyone involved in this tense, yet useless war.
